TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The University of Dayton women's cross country team finished in eighth place at the 2017 NCAA Great Lakes Regional 6K Friday at Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
 
The UD women were ranked 11^th in the Great Lakes Region going into the race.

Junior Taylor Vernot earned NCAA All-Region Honors with her Top 25 finish, crossing the line in 23^rd in a time of 21:05.9.

Senior Emily Leonard was 43rd in 21:25.9. Chloe Flora was 44^th overall and in the Top 10 for sophomores in a time of 21:26.8, while junior Emily Borchers was 46^th in a PR time of 21:28.3.

The UD men's team also took eighth place in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

"We were led by Taylor Vernot, who got All-Regional honors, finishing 23^rd. That's the first we've had in a long time. She ran really well for us with Emily Leonard, Chloe Flora, Grace McDonald, and Emily Borchers, they had a really big day for us. We had a really strong one through four and our fifth runner, Grace, really held on despite some pain she's been having in her foot. The women also finished eighth and had their highest finish ever and I just consider myself honored to have these two solid groups of kids to work with. They just really came together as a team to go out and do what we wanted to do. We are ready to take a little down time and get back to work."
