Volleyball Headed To Duquesne For 2017 #A10VB Championship

Dayton to Play Winner of Saint Louis/George Washington

DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team is traveling to Pittsburgh today in order to take part in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship this weekend hosted by Duquesne. The second-seeded Flyers earned a first-round bye and will be matching up against the winner of the first quarterfinal match between #3 Saint Louis and #6 George Washington on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

All five matches of the #A10VB Championship will be streamed live via the A-10 Network and are being played at Duquesne's A.J. Palumbo Center.

About Dayton
Dayton (22-7, 13-1 A-10) is making its 18th consecutive and 21st overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2017. The Flyers finished out regular-season play with 3-0 wins at George Washington and George Mason on Nov. 10 and 11 and senior Jessica Sloan claimed the final A-10 Player of the Week award. As a team, Dayton ranks first in the league with a .256 hitting percentage, kills/set (13.68) and assists/set (12.56) while 2017 Player of the Year Amber Erhahon ranks first in the A-10 with a .458 hitting percentage (4th NCAA).

Scouting Saint Louis
Saint Louis (13-14, 10-4 A-10) closed out A-10 play with four-straight wins, including straight-set wins on the road at George Washington and George Mason this past weekend. The Billikens started their season 0-9 but SLU began to turn things around by winning three of its next four matches. Saint Louis freshman Maya Taylor was crowned the league's Rookie of the Year after leading the team and ranking second in the A-10 with 3.48 kills/set. As a team, the Billikens rank second with 13.14 kills/set and third with a .210 hitting percentage.

Scouting George Washington
George Washington (10-20, 6-8 A-10) closed out the 2017 regular season with a five-match homestand but dropped its last two matches. The Colonials rank second in the A-10 with 15.03 digs/set and third with 1,330 team kills. GW is led by Aaliya Davidson with 2.33 kills/set to go with 2.36 digs/set while Sydney Welch is the team's primary passer with 4.01 digs/set (7th A-10). At the net, the Colonials' Kelsey Clark (0.81) and Alexis Lete (0.78) rank 10th and 11th in A-10 standings for blocks/set.

• Tim Horsmon is in his ninth season overall, and fourth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2017. His record at Dayton is 237-64 and his career win-loss mark sits at 413-228 in 19 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's second-winningest coach behind only R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last nine seasons (2009-2017), the Flyers have recorded a 119-10 (.922) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton is making its 18th-consecutive and 21st overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2017. The Flyers have reached conference post-season play every year they have been a member of the A-10 except 1995 and 1999. UD holds a 26-9 record in league tournaments, including winning six-consecutive and 15 of its last 16 tourney matches.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 13 times (2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 11 times (2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and made their 12th NCAA appearance in program history in 2016.
• With two wins at the 2014 Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program and was just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 12th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,107-574 (.659) over 48 seasons (1970).
• The Flyers finished the 2017 regular season with a 22-7 overall record and a 13-1 Atlantic 10 mark, finishing in second place in regular-season league play. 2017 was the program's 39th winning season and its 30th 20-win season.
