#UDMSOC Hosts Fordham In A-10 Quarterfinals

The No. 4 Seeded Flyers Take On The No. 5 Seeded Rams

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will host Fordham University Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Tournament Quarterfinals. The Flyers are the No. 4 seed overall while the Rams are the No. 5 seed. The two teams have not met this season.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers ended the regular season with a 9-7-2 record overall and a 6-2 Atlantic 10 mark. Dayton earned 18 points and tied for second place with VCU and George Washington. Tiebreakers gave the Flyers the No. 4 seed. UD is 4-1 in its last five home games.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 13th season at the helm of the Flyers, totaling 13 0victories, the most in UD history. He returns a veteran squad this year with seven seniors, two of the top three goal scorers, and both goalkeepers from last season.

The Flyers rank fifth in the nation in shots per game and eighth in the country in shots on goal per game. UD also has the ninth most goals with 37. The Flyers are averaging 2.06 goals per game and holding opponents to 1.22 each contest.

Sophomore Rok Taneski is coming off a career outing and is tied for the lead in the A-10 in scoring with 10 goals to go with six assists. Senior Alvaro Navarro has added eight goals and seven assists while freshman Thor Helgason has seven goals. Senior goalkeeper has made five straight starts with a 4-1 record and two shutouts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
FORDHAM

Fordham enters the postseason with a 11-4-2 record overall and a 5-2-1 A-10 mark. The Rams earned the fifth seed after picking up 16 points during the regular season. Head coach Jim McElderry is in his 15th year in charge of the Rams.

As a team, Fordham scores 1.35 goals each game, but has a stifling defense allowing a league-low 0.65 goals to opposing teams. The Rams benefit from a shot advantage and corner kick advantage.

Leading the way for Fordham are the Loebe brothers, Janos and Jannik. Janos leads the team with seven goals and eight assists while Jannik has five goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu has made all 17 starts with just 11 goals allowed, 54 saves, and the second most shutouts in the nation with 10 on the season.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Fordham have met 19 times previously with the Flyers winning 11 times, the Rams winning six, and two draws. The last match-up took place on Oct. 5, 2016 in Dayton with the Flyers coming out on top 2-1.

LAST OUTING
Dayton won its regular season finale against George Mason, 5-2. On a rainy night at Baujan Field, the Flyers scored early and often as they cruised to a commanding victory, despite a rain delay after halftime. Taneski led the way with a hat trick.

Fordham picked up a crucial win over No. 25 Massachusetts on the final day of the season. With a 3-2 victory, the Rams went into Amherst and left with a win over the top team in the A-10.

FLYERS FINISH TIED FOR SECOND IN REGULAR SEASON
Dayton won its final game of the season to finish with 18 points, tying VCU and George Washington for runners-up in the A-10 standings. Massachusetts won the regular season title with 19 points.

UP NEXT
If the Flyers win on Saturday, they will play the winner of Massachusetts and Saint Louis on Friday, Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m. The A-10 Semifinals and Finals will take place at Baujan Field with Dayton serving as the host this year.
