#UDWBB Defeats Findlay At UD Arena In Exhibition

Dayton Had Six Players In Double Figures

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated the Findlay Oilers Saturday afternoon in an exhibition game, 91-65.

The Flyers and Oilers squared off in front of 1,386 fans for both team's first action of the season with Dayton defending its newly renovated arena.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter:
• The Flyers scored the first points of the period thanks to a layup by JaVonna Layfield.
• Most of the period was a back-and-forth contest, each team countering the other's baskets with neither team leading by more than four points after seven minutes of play.
• Eight different Flyers scored while the Oilers had five.
• Both teams connected from beyond the arc with Findlay hitting 4-of-8 (50%) and Dayton hitting 6-of-8 (75%)
• The Flyers went on an 11-0 run in the final two minutes to end the period leading 29-17.
 
2nd Quarter:
• Dayton extended its run after with back-to-back buckets from Jayla Scaife and Lauren Cannatelli forcing the Oilers to call a timeout.
• After the timeout, Findlay knocked down a couple of threes of their own, tightening the score to 34-23 in favor of the Flyers.
• Maddy Dennis and Cannatelli led all scorers with 10 points giving Dayton a 49-28 advantage to end the half.
 
3rd Quarter:
• The Flyers shots 47.4% from the field, their lowest field percentage per quarter of the contest.
• Jordan Wilmoth scored six points in the quarter extending the Flyer lead to 70-47.
• Anna Hintz scored the first eight points and grabbed three rebounds in the period for Findlay.
 
4th Quarter:
• Six Flyers scored, with Tiaera Phillips leading the final period with seven points.
• Dayton went 6-7 down the stretch to seal the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• The Dayton bench contributed 22 of their 49 first half points.
• The Flyers had 25 total rebounds in the first half, while the Oilers had 15 boards.
• Dayton had 10 steals in the game while Findlay had four
• Dayton led for more than 37 minutes of the game while Findlay led for just under two minutes. The game was tied for 38 seconds.
• Anna Hintz and Elissa Englebrecht led Findlay with 14 points each.
• Jayla Scaife led the Flyers with 17 points and pulled down four rebounds while teammate JaVonna Layfield scored 11 points and grabbed 11 boards.
• The Flyers had six players in double figures.
