#UDBASE BATTLES BUT COMES UP SHORT TO FURMAN

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team scored seven runs on ten hits on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to top Furman University, who won by a 9-7 final at Latham Stadium.

KEY MOMENT
- After Dayton had cut its deficit to just a single run at 7-6 in the top of the sixth inning, Furman's Sky Overton connected on a two-run homer to put the Paladins ahead for good.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top 1st
- Senior Nick Ryan crushed a leadoff home run to left-center to put the Flyers ahead 1-0

Bottom 1st 
- Furman didn't let the lead last long, coming through with a two-out, two-run double that put the home team ahead 2-1.

Bottom 2nd 
- The Paladins added to their lead with a single run in the second frame, getting another two-out base hit to drive in a run and make the score 3-1.

Top 3rd
- The Flyers jumped ahead 4-3 thanks to a Brandon Smith RBI single that, coupled with a three-base fielding error, gave UD the lead.

Bottom 3rd
- Furman wasted no time in taking the lead right back, using four hits and two walks to plate four runs in their half of the frame and make the score 7-4.

Top 6th 
- Dayton pulled the game within a run when pinch hitter Brian Wood lined a two-run double to right-center field that made the score 7-6.

Bottom 6th 
- The Paladins came through in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homer to put the Flyers' deficit back to three.

Top 8th 
- Sophomore Pat Meehan lifted his first career home run over the left field wall to pull UD within two, but the Flyers would get no closer, falling 9-7.

KEY STATS
- For the second straight game, free passes have come back to haunt Dayton. Furman worked five walks and was hit by two pitches, with three of those freebies coming around to score.
- Senior Nick Ryan and sophomore Connor Echols continued their fine hitting this young season, each collecting 2-for-5 games.
- Ryan's home run was the second of his Dayton career, while Meehan's was his first collegiate longball ever.
- Redshirt freshman Brandon Smith added a two-hit performance in his Dayton Flyer debut.
- Wood and senior Mitch Coughlin each smacked doubles in the game.
- Freshman Jordan Cox through two innings of scoreless relief for UD, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
