DAYTON, Ohio –The University of Dayton baseball team split a double header with Ball State on Sunday afternoon at Spectrum Stadium, winning Game One 3-2 and losing Game Two 10-2.
GAME ONE –DAYTON 3 BALL STATE 2
KEY MOMENT
- Down 1-0 in the fourth, Dayton managed to score two runs and take the lead through a series of fortunate events for the Flyers including 3 walks, 3 stolen bases, an infield error, a balk and no hits in the inning.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top 4thÂ
- Ball State opened up the scoring with a 2 out line drive in the 4th that brought in a run and put BSU up 1-0.
Bottom 4th
- With two outs and two on in the inning, the Flyers took advantage of an infield error and
Brandon Smith hustled home from second to tie the game up at 1-1.
- A balk sends runner on third in to score. Dayton takes the lead and manages to score another run without getting a hit in the inning, putting them up 2-1.
Bottom 5th

Nick Ryan from third with a 2 out single extending the Flyer lead to 3-1.
Top 9th
- Passed ball with a runner on third gives Ball State a run and a chance to threaten the Flyers lead in the 9th.
GAME TWO –DAYTON 2 BALL STATE 10
KEY MOMENT
- Ball State already up 1-0, knocked in six more runs all with two outs in the top of the third to open the game up. A series of unfortunate events for the Flyers gave the Cardinals the opening they needed starting with a hit by pitch, a wild pitch, a throwing error, a fielding error, and then six hits by Ball State was the sequence that resulted in five unearned runs and one earned in the inning.Â
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top 1stÂ
- Ball State opened up the scoring despite two outs when a single up the middle drove in the first run of the game to put Ball State up 1-0.
Top 3rd
- With two outs in the inning, BSU was able to send six more runners across the plate. A hit by pitch, a few hits and a coupe errors by the Flyers put them up 6-0.
Top 4th
- With two outs, a hit and run to left field sends the runner from first base all the way to home plate. The Cardinals extended their lead to 8-0
Top 6th
- Ball State added two more runs off of two hits early in the inning to give them a 10-0 lead.
Bottom 9th
- Dayton ruins the shutout adding two runs off of two hits to end of the game. With bases loaded,
