#UDBASE SWEPT AWAY BY GEORGE MASON

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team was swept in an Atlantic 10 double header on Saturday afternoon, falling to George Mason 8-6 in Game One and 10-5 in Game Two from Spectrum Stadium.

Dayton falls to 10-24 on the season and 1-8 in A-10 play.

GAME ONE – GEORGE MASON 8 DAYTON 6
KEY MOMENT
- After Dayton clawed its way back into the game and tied the score, George Mason jumped back in front thanks to a two-out, RBI single by Tim Quinn, that gave the Patriots a 7-6 lead they would never lose. 

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Bottom 1st
- Dayton jumped out in front 3-0 thanks to a mammoth three-run blast from first baseman Brandon Smith.

Top 2nd
- George Mason answered with a home run of their own in the next inning, bringing the score to 3-1.

Top 3rd
- The Patriots plated three more runs to take a 4-3 lead, taking advantage of two Flyer errors in the inning.

Bottom 3rd
- Smith evened the game at 4-4 with his second home run of the day.

Top 4th
- Right after UD tied the game up, Mason struck back with a pair of runs to take a 6-4 lead, taking advantage of two walks and a hit-by-pitch in the inning by Flyer pitching.

Bottom 5th 
- Dayton pulled back to even at 6-6 thanks to a sacrifice fly by freshman Brantley Johnson that plated fellow rookie Tate Hagan, and a two-out, RBI single from sophomore Connor Echols.

Top 6th
- George Mason pulled ahead yet again, scoring a run with a bases-loaded single to take a 7-6 lead.

Top 7th
- The Patriots tacked on another run with a bloop single, pushing the Mason lead to 8-6.

GAME TWO – GEORGE MASON 10 DAYTON 5
KEY MOMENT
- Dayton pulled the game within two runs thanks to a four-run sixth, but stuck to the theme of the weekend by surrendering a run in the very next inning without the courtesy of a base hit.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top 1st
- The Patriots opened the scoring right away with three straight hits, scoring a pair of runs and taking an early 2-0 lead.

Bottom 2nd 
- Redshirt freshman Brandon Smith crushed his third home run of the day to cut Dayton's deficit in half, 2-1.

Top 4th 
- George Mason bust the game wide open, plating five runs on three hits (with one walk and two hit-by-pitch), highlighted by a mammoth grand slam, to take a 7-1 lead.

Bottom 6th
- Dayton jumped back into the game thanks to a four-run frame, highlighted by four straight hits to start the inning. 
- Connor Echols and Tate Hagan each tallied doubles, and the Flyers saw their deficit shrink to 7-5.

Top 7th
- Mason got one of the runs back thanks to a bases-loaded walk, bringing the tally to 8-5.

Top 8th
- The Patriots edged their lead to 10-5 thanks to two Flyer errors, giving George Mason the double header and series sweep.

KEY STATS
- Dayton pitching has given up double-digit hits in seven consecutive games.
- Flyer pitching allowed 21 free passes on the day, with nine walks and 12 hit-by-pitch.
- Redshirt freshman Brandon Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate in the first game with two home runs. It was the second multi-home run game of the season for Smith.
- Smith's solo home run in the third inning was the fourth time he'd left the yard with no one on base this season.
- The Floyd Knobs, Ind. native also went deep in Game Two, launching a solo shot over the centerfield wall for his seventh homer of the campaign.
- Sophomore Pat Meehan had a two-hit performance out of the leadoff spot in Game One, while freshman Tate Hagan added a 2-for-4 day in Game Two.

Dayton returns to action on Tuesday, April 18 when they travel to Eastern Kentucky University for a 6:30 p.m. game.
