NORMAL, Ill. – The University of Dayton came up short in the series finale against Illinois State on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-2 at Duffy Bass Field.

KEY MOMENT
- With two on and one out in the third, Dayton looked to have a strikeout and caught stealing that would end the inning, but instead, the baserunner was ruled safe. The next batter hit a two-run single that tied the game, and a batter later the go-ahead run came across for Illinois State.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top 2nd 
- Dayton jumped on top early thanks to a two-run inning, highlighted by a Connor Echols sacrifice fly, and a Tate Hagan two-out, run-scoring single that put UD ahead 2-0.

Bottom 3rd
- Illinois State jumped in front thanks to a four-hit, three-run inning that put the Redbirds ahead 3-2, highlighted by a two-run single that plated a pair. 

Bottom 5th
- ISU tacked on another run with a leadoff triple and a groundout, putting the hosts up 4-2.

Bottom 7th 
- The Redbirds loaded the bases in the inning then came through win an RBI single and back-to-back sacrifice flies to expand their lead to 7-2.

KEY STATS
- Redshirt freshman Brandon Smith and true freshman Tate Hagan each went 2-for-3 in the game.
- Smith scored a run while Hagan drove in one.
- Senior Brad Burkhart had one hit in four tries in the game, extending his hitting streak to five games.
