KUTRUFF, #UDBASE BAFFLE TOLEDO IN 4-1 WIN

TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior Mason Kutruff and the University of Dayton baseball team baffled the University of Toledo on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Rockets 4-1 in non-conference action at Scott Park. 

KEY MOMENT
- Holding on to a slim, one-run lead, freshman Brian Wood smacked his third hit and second double of the day to score senior Mitch Coughlin from first base and give Dayton more than enough breathing room for Kutruff and the bullpen.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top 3rd
- Dayton broke open the scoring with back-to-back doubles by freshman Brian Wood and redshirt freshman Brandon Smith to go up 1-0.

Bottom 3rd 
- Toledo tied the score at 1-1 with a two-out, infield single.

Top 6th 
- The Flyers took the lead thanks to an unearned run that came across on a Connor Echols batted ball, pushing UD ahead 2-1.

Top 7th
- Dayton added to its lead when Wood hit his second double of the day, scoring senior Mitch Coughlin from first base to go ahead 3-1.

Top 9th 
- UD tacked on a key insurance run without a hit in the final frame, scoring a run after a hit by pitch, sacrifice bunt, groundout and wild pitch to go up 4-1.

KEY STATS
- Dayton limited Toledo to just one run, the fewest runs allowed by UD since a 3-1 win over Bowling Green on March 21.
- Junior Mason Kutruff found a groove on the mound, at one point retiring 16 of 18 batters over a four-inning span.
- Kutrtuff left the game with one out and two runners on in the ninth inning. It was the longest outing of the left-handers career.
- After not having an extra-base hit in Tuesday's loss, the Flyers had three in Wednesday's win, all doubles.
- Freshman Brian Wood continued his recent tear, going 3-for-4 with a walk. It was Wood's first career three-hit game.
- Wood hit two doubles in the game, doubling his season total.
- Freshman Takahiro Yamada got the start at third base and went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles.
- Redshirt Freshman Brandon Smith hit an RBI double, pushing his team-leading RBI total to 26.
