SOUTH BEND, Ind.  – The University of Dayton men's cross country team finished first overall and had the individual champion in junior Chris Negri as the Flyers had an outstanding day at the National Catholic Invitational, winning the event for the first time in program history.

The Flyers faced a loaded field of regionally ranked teams and Atlantic 10 foes, and came out on top as they won their second straight meet to start the season off strong.

COACH ORDWAY'S COMMENTS
"Our men had an outstanding day today," said head coach Jason Ordway. "We got the individual win with Chris Negri, who ran a really smart race for his fourth and fifth miles to get the win. We had an awesome team effort one through five. We had a nice bunch up there. Luke Hoover fell at one point and was able to get back up and get in the mix and finished as our fifth man, it was a really gutsy performance out of him. We got the team title on the day which is something that the University of Dayton has never done before. We narrowly beat host Notre Dame. We are continuing the success that we have had coming into this one. We were able to beat some of the schools in the conference as well as regionally ranked schools. We are looking forward to seeing how the committee votes us in the region. We showed a lot of poise and maturity today despite hot conditions, but the guys really showed up with their effort. I am really proud of what we did today. Hopefully that catapults us into the rest of the season."
