#UDWSOC Travels Northeast For Two Non-Conference Matches

Dayton Plays at Akron Friday and at Kent State Sunday

The University of Dayton women's soccer team (2-3-0, 0-0-0 A-10) will continue its non-conference schedule, playing at two Mid-American Conference schools this week; Akron this Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium, and at Kent State this Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. at Dix Stadium.

FLYERS UNDEFEATED AT BAUJAN
• Dayton is 2-0 this season at Baujan, outscoring opponents 6-0 with 3-0 wins over Saint Francis (Aug. 27) and Marshall (Sept. 1).
• On the flipside, the Flyers are 0-3 on the road this season. UD most recently suffered a 2-0 setback at Purdue, despite Kaelyn Johns notching seven saves, just one off her career high.

THE SERIES
• This will be the first-ever meeting between Dayton and Akron in women's soccer.
• Dayton is 0-1-0 all-time vs. Kent State, losing the first-ever meeting to the Golden Flashes 2-1 at Baujan Field last season, Aug. 28, 2016. Alexis Kiehl scored Dayton's lone goal in that match on a penalty kick. Jenna Hellstrom scored both Kent State goals, including one on a penalty kick.

SCOUTING AKRON
• Akron (1-4-1) has lost four consecutive matches after starting the season 1-0-1.
• The Zips have been shut out in four of their six matches this season.
• Eliese LaCourt, Rachel Baughman, Erin Babcock and Catie Corrigan have each scored one goal this season for Akron.
• Freshman goalkeeper Amani Jiu leads the Zips with a 1.63 GAA and 25 saves this season. She was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week (Aug. 22). She recorded a shutout and nine saves in a double-overtime 0-0 draw against defending Horizon League champion Milwaukee in her first career start.
She then led the Zips to a 3-0 victory over Green Bay.
• Akron was 4-11-4 last season. The Zips were predicted to finish fifth overall in the MAC Eastern Division this year.
• Akron returns 11 players from the 2016 squad and added 13 freshmen.

SCOUTING KENT STATE
• Kent State is 2-3-0 to start the season with wins over St. Bonaventure (4-0) and most recently Florida Atlantic (1-0).
• The Golden Flashes opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Purdue.
• Freshman Cameron Shedenhelm leads KSU with three goals this season.
• Junior Ashleah McDonald and senior Katie Kingsbury have split time at goalkeeper for the Golden Flashes.
• Kent State was selected to repeat as MAC East Division champions.
• Last season the Golden Flashes (15-3-2) won a program-record 15 matches and advanced to their first-ever NCAA Tournament.
• KSU has eight starters returning from last year's squad. Senior Donavan Capehart and junior Paige Culver were All-MAC honorees last season, while junior Ashleah McDonald earned NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region honors. Senior forward Hayden Pascoe is the Flashes' top returning scorer with 17 points on six goals and five assists in 2016.

FLYER QUICK HITS
• UD had a 9-10-3 overall record in 2016 and was 4-4-2 in the Atlantic 10, earning the No. 7 seed in the tournament. Dayton went on to win the A-10 tournament title.
• Dayton returns nine starters and 71.4 percent of its scoring from a year ago, led by Alexis Kiehl's 21 goals.
• The Flyers have made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history: 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, and 2016. UD advanced to the second round in both 2009 and 2010 and to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001. The Flyers lost 3-2 to No. 24 Ohio State in the NCAA First Round in Columbus last year.

SPREADING THE SCORING
• Six different Flyers have scored so far this season: Alexis Kiehl, Sidney LeRoy, Micayla Livingston (2 goals), Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey and Sara Robertson (2 goals).

MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH
Alexis Kiehl was among the 30 women selected by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) to the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
• She is the only representative from the Atlantic 10 on the list of standout student-athletes.
• Kiehl, a forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, is coming off a phenomenal season. She led the Flyers with 21 goals and six assists for a total of 48 points.
• Her 21 goals tied for first in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer in 2016. It's also the fourth-best, single-season effort in UD women's soccer history.
• She was a 2016 NSCAA NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-East Region First Team and a 2016 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team selection.
