#UDMTEN Picks Up Big Road Win Over Richmond

The Flyers Prevailed Over The Spiders By A 4-1 Margin

Box Score RICHMOND – Dayton men's tennis bounced back from its first loss of the season against VCU Friday with a decisive 4-1 victory over Richmond on Saturday. The Flyers advance to 3-1 on the season and the Spiders drop to 1-2 overall.

Dayton earned the doubles point to open the match with a 1-0 lead over Richmond. The Flyers have won the doubles point in every dual match this season. Carsten Fisher and Zach Berry suffered their first loss of the season as doubles partners on court one, but the tandems of Jordan Benjamin and Theo Jener in No. 2 doubles, along with Steven Karl and Lorenzo Rollhauser in No. 3 doubles, were both able to defeat their Spider counterparts to clinch Dayton's first point of the dual.

The Flyers kept the ball rolling in singles play with earning victories on each of the top three courts. Junior Jordan Benjamin picked up an especially impressive victory over Richmond's Caleb Troy by a score of 6-4, 6-4. The win moved Benjamin's singles record to 4-0 in duals matches and Troy is the incumbent Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. Fisher and Berry also won their matches in straight sets for the Flyers. Freshman Theo Jener fell to James Aronson by a score of 6-4, 6-3, while sophomore Steven Karl and senior Simon Jayaram's matches were left unfinished once Dayton had earned the clinching point.

Dayton will host three matches next weekend. Butler comes to town on Friday with competition beginning at 6 p.m. and Eastern Illinois and Wright State will be a part of a double header on Sunday, with matches beginning at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
