The University of Dayton baseball team dropped the first game in its weekend series with High Point by a score of 12-2. The loss drops Dayton to 1-3 this season, while High Point earned its second straight win to improve to 2-3.
Also of note, Sunday's game has been moved up to Saturday due to possible inclement weather, meaning Dayton and High Point will play a double header tomorrow. The first game of the double header will begin at noon.
KEY MOMENT
After
Pat Meehan opened up the game with a leadoff double off the left field wall, High Point starter Drew Daczkowski would not allow another hit until there were two outs in the top of the fifth and allowed only one other base runner in that time frame - a walk by
Bailey Montoya . Montoya snapped the streak with a single to right field in the fifth, but the damage was already done, as the Panthers had built up an 8-1 lead by that point.
KEY STATS
- Pat Meehan continued his hot streak at the plate, including a leadoff double off the left field wall. Meehan now is 3-4 (.750) in his first at-bat of the game at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, including three extra-base hits and two home runs. He also accounted for both of the team's runs scored on Friday.
- RJ Wagner continued his impressive start to the season with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief on the mound on Friday. Wagner also struck out four batters and allowed just two hits. He has yet to allow a run this season in 6.2 innings of work.
- Bailey Montoya reached base in all three of his at-bats, including a single to right field and a pair of walks.
- Several Flyers made their season or career debuts on Friday, including Brian Wood, Nick Spiliotis, Drew Reckart and Jonathan Brus.

Pat Meehan opened up the action with a double off the left field wall and was moved over to third immediately by a
Mitchell Garrity bunt.
Brandon Smith was the next batter and struck out on a dropped third strike and Meehan made a break for the plate and scored when the High Point catcher made the throw to first base to retire Smith.

Bottom 1st:
High Point responded and got two runs in the form of a Daniel Milwee home run with a runner already on base. High Point 2, Dayton 1
Bottom 2nd:
The Panthers hit back-to-back doubles in the second to plate one and then scored off a runner stealing third base coupled by an error on the throw by Montoya. High Point's Conner Dunbar then hit a single to right field to and scored after Milwee reach on an error and Hunter Lee hit a single to right center.

Bottom 3rd:
Austin Cline retired the first two High Point batters of the inning, but Jordan Sergent hit a single up the middle and scored off a Carson Jackson double down the left field line.
High Point 6, Dayton 1
Bottom 4th:
High Point loaded the bases to open the inning with a leadoff single and a pair of walks. The Panthers capitalized by putting the ball in play at the plate and scored two more runs.
High Point 8, Dayton 1
Bottom 5th:
The Panthers had their highest scoring output in the fifth with four runs off of four hits to extend their lead to 11 runs.
