Softball Headed To Philly For 3-Game Set At Saint Joseph's

Flyers Enjoying Four-Game Winning Streak

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is headed to Philadelphia for a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Saint Joseph's April 14-15. First pitch Saturday is set for 12 p.m. at SJU Softball Stadium.

About Dayton
Dayton (17-19, 7-4 A-10) enters the weekend enjoying a three-game winning streak and the Flyers have won eight of their last night games. UD, currently in fourth place in Atlantic 10 standings, is led offensively by junior Kyle Davidson with a .355 average (9th A-10) that includes 39 hits (t-6th A-10) and 11 doubles (t-3rd A-10) to go with eight stolen bases (t-7th A-10). In the circle, senior Manda Cash leads the Flyer pitching staff with a 1.52 ERA (1st A-10) and 96 strikeouts (t-1st A-10).

Scouting Saint Joseph's
Saint Joseph's (14-19, 2-7 A-10) broke up its four-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over Lehigh in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader. The Hawks' offense is led by Molly Kapala with a .333 average (14th A-10) with 34 hits, 10 doubles and 20 RBI. Madison Clarke holds the team's low ERA of 2.83 while Ashley Ventura has tallied a team-best 63 strikeouts.

Series Stuff
Dayton and Saint Joseph's have squared off 45 times in the all-time series between the two programs. The Hawks hold a 27-17-1 lead - UD and SJU split last season's series 1-1-1 in Dayton.

RPI Rankings
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2018 season, released April 8, Dayton came in at 206 (up 11 spots from last week) according to NCAA.com. Saint Joseph's ranked 179.

Star in the Circle
Senior Manda Cash, the 2016 A-10 Pitcher of the Year, has already made her mark on the Dayton record book and continues to climb the rankings. She  became Dayton's all-time career strikeouts leader on the first day of the 2018 season and now has 650 career strikeouts. Additionally, Cash's 3.92 strikeout-to-walk ratio is the all-time best career average and her career ERA of 1.85 ranks third and 46 career wins ranks fourth all-time in program history.

Senior Kailee Budicin has taken a base on balls 14 times (t-9th A-10) this season and has tallied 64 walks for her career, which ranks fifth all-time in program history.

Catch Me If You Can
As a team, Dayton is 36-for-43 in stolen bases on the season - the 36 stolen bases rankes second in the Atlantic 10. Junior Kyle Davidson and freshman Briley Sidor each have eight stolen bases (t-7th A-10) this season. Juniors Kelly Fitzgerald and Lisa Tassi each have five.

Senior infielder Kailee Budicin has played in 187 games with 184 starts as a Flyer. She is on pace to shoot up through the Dayton top 10 list for career games played this season with the possibility of setting a new program record. The current record holder, Natalie Mariano (2012-15) played in 203 career games. Of note: Budicin has started in 176 consecutive games for the Flyers.

Bring Me Home
Freshman Abby Ehrenborg leads the team and is seventh in the A-10 with 28 RBI this season. Ehrenborg has posted eight multiple RBI games in 2018 including five RBI at Wright State on March 15.

Dayton head coach Cara LaPlaca tallied her 233rd career win at UD on April 15, 2017 at La Salle, surpassing former Flyer head coach Jodi Eickemeyer as Dayton's all-time winningest coach. She now has 256 wins at UD.
