Strong Outing From Cox Pushes #UDBASE Past Ohio, 6-3

Jordan Cox Threw A Career-High 7.0 Innings And Allowed Just One Run (Unearned)

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team defeated Ohio by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon, which marked the Flyers' third win in their last four games. Dayton's record improves to 11-25 this season, while Ohio falls to 19-21 overall.

KEY MOMENT
Dayton trailed by a 1-0 margin heading into the bottom of the third inning, but the Flyers opened the bottom half of the frame with four consecutive hits to start off what would eventually become a five-run inning. Bailey Montoya and Brantley Johnson led the inning off with a pair of singles, and Mitchell Garrity followed with a double to right center to score Montoya. Connor Echols had the fourth straight hit of the inning with a single into right field to drive home Johnson and give Dayton the lead. Brandon Smith walked to load the bases, and all three runners advanced on a wild pitch, sending Garrity across the plate. Echols scored on an at-bat that saw Tate Hagan reach via error, then Connor Wilson's hustle down to first base on a ground ball prevented what would've been a double play to allow Smith to score from third on the play.

SCORING SUMMARY
Top 2nd: (Ohio 1, Dayton 0)
Ohio managed to load the bases via a pair of singles and a batter reaching on an error, when a sac fly from Rudy Rott drove home Aaron Levy from third. With two runners still in scoring position and two outs, Jordan Cox struck out Tanner Piechnick to end the inning with no additional damage done.

Bottom 5th: (Dayton 6, Ohio 1)
Pat Meehan opened the inning with a double over the head of the right fielder and advanced to third following a Brandon Smith flyout to deep center field. The next batter, Tate Hagan, hit a chopping grounder to the first baseman, who attempted to throw out Meehan at home, but the throw was well late, allowing another run across the plate for the Flyers.
