Richmond, Va.  – The University of Dayton baseball team lost the rubber match of its three-game series to Richmond on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-0. Dayton is now 13-27 this season with a 5-10 mark in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond is 22-19 and extends its lead on the Flyers to 3.0 games in the A-10 standings with an 8-7 mark in conference play.
KEY MOMENT
Richmond picked up three runs in the bottom of the fourth, all with two outs, to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Flyers were never quite able to get things going at the plate and were unable to threaten the Spiders lead.
SCORING SUMMARY
Bottom 4th: (Richmond 3, Dayton 0)
Aaron Ernst struck out Justin Cook and got Tyler Plantier to ground out for the first two out of the inning, but a Daniel Brumbaugh walk, followed by a Jordan Schulefand double put Richmond on the board and snapped Ernst's 12.2 inning scoreless streak. Richmond had the bases loaded following a walk and hit batsman and doubled its lead with a Vinny Capra single through the left side. The Spiders added one more when a balk was called on Ernst with the bases still loaded.
Bottom 6th: (Richmond 4, Dayton 0)
With runners on first and second, a throwing error on
Bailey Montoya allowed the runner on second to score.
KEY STATS
- Dayton hit just 1-17 (.059) with runners on base and 0-7 with runners in scoring position.
- Conversely, Richmond went 5-13 (.385) at the plate w/RISP.
