Women's Soccer Hosts Louisville Thursday At Baujan

Both Squads Are 2-0-0 Going Into The Match

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 A-10) opened up the 2018 season by winning the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational. The Flyers start the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2011. Dayton won the tournament with a 2-1 win over hosts James Madison on Thursday, Aug. 16 and a 2-1 OT win over William and Mary on Sunday, Aug. 19. 

The Flyers' regular season home opener will be this Thursday, Aug. 22 vs. Louisville (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field. Admission is free. 
•  Promotions include schedule posters and thunder sticks for all. 
•  Dayton Flyer vuvuzelas for the first 25 fans.
•  For students, there is a raffle for a Google Home, as well as Dayton Flyer T-shirts and free food.
•  UD freshmen will sign autographs after the match.

Dayton plays at Eastern Michigan (0-2-0) on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m.

THE SERIES
• Dayton is 11-1-0 all-time vs. Louisville. The last time these two teams met was Nov. 12, 2011 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Cards defeated the Flyers 2-1. UD is 6-0-0 when hosting Louisville at Baujan Field. 
• The Flyers have only faced Eastern Michigan once, and it was a 2-1 road loss on Oct. 26, 1996.

FLYER QUICK HITS
•    Dayton finished the 2017 season with a 9-9-2 overall record and 4-4-2 Atlantic 10 Conference record.
•    Junior Micayla Livingston is UD's top returning scorer after notching seven goals and five assists last year.
•    Senior defender Nadia Pestell led the Flyers with six assists last season.
•    Senior goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns has started 61 matches in her career and has 261 career saves. Her 15 career shutouts are fourth all-time at UD, including a career-high seven shutouts last season.
• UD has 11 freshmen on its roster this season. 
• Head coach Eric Golz is in his second season at the helm of the Flyers. He previously served as an assistant at UD in 2011. 

SCOUTING LOUISVILLE
• Louisville finished 9-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the ACC in 2017. The Cards were picked 9th in the ACC preseason poll. They are currently ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll.
• Sophomore midfielder Emina Ekic was named to the Preseason All-ACC Women's Soccer team and to the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. She also led the team with seven goals on the year and tied for the lead with three assists. She earned first team All-East Region by United Soccer Coaches Association.  Ekic was also named ACC Co-Freshman of the Year.
•  Freshman forward Maisie Whitsett was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. She was the Cardinals' leading scorer in a 2-0 opening week with seven points on three goals and one assist. In her Louisville debut, she led the offense with two goals and an assist in an 8-1 win over Wright State. Against Xavier, Whitsett scored the game winner with eight seconds remaining in the first overtime period, for a 2-1 victory.

SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
• The Eagles went 7-12-1 overall and 4-7-0 in the MAC last season. 
• Eastern Michigan was picked to finish seventh in the 2018 MAC preseason poll.
• Eastern Michigan has two road losses, a 3-0 setback at Purdue, and a 1-0 loss at Illinois State (Coach Golz's former stop as a head coach). 

FLYERS WIN JMU INVITATIONAL
• The Dayton women's soccer team was the only team to go 2-0-0 at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational (Aug. 16 &19). 
• Two freshmen scored in Dayton's 2-1 come-from-behind win over the host James Madison Thursday, Aug. 16. Hannah Osland scored UD's first goal of 2018 in the 80th minute and Izzy Greene had the game-winner in the 89th minute. It was her first-ever collegiate shot, resulting in her first goal.
• Freshmen Grace Rickett and Hannah Osland, and sophomore Morgan Henderson earned their first collegiate starts in the match vs. JMU. 
• The Flyers defeated William & Mary 2-1 in overtime on Sunday, Aug. 19. Senior Keagin Collie scored in the 79th minute, but the Tribe tied it shortly after. Sophomore Morgan Henderson scored the golden goal in the 96th minute on an assist from Sara Robertson. It marked Henderson's first collegiate goal. 

GREENE EARNS A-10 HONOR
•  Izzy Greene was named the first Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the 2018 season. The award is for games played Aug. 16-19.
•  Greene scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to give the Flyers a come-from-behind victory on the road over James Madison in the JMU Fairfield by Marriott Invitational. It was her first collegiate shot which resulted in her first collegiate goal. •  The Lyndhurst, Ohio product also had a game-high two shots in Dayton's 2-1 OT win over William & Mary as the Flyers won the weekend tournament. 

FLYERS RANKED IN FIRST POLL
Dayton is ranked No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches' Week One East Regional Poll. Dayton is 2-0-0 to start the season; their best start since 2011. 

HOME SWEET HOME
•    Dayton has 10 home matches on its home Baujan Field this season. 
•    Baujan Field will be the site of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship semifinals on Nov. 2 and the final on Nov. 4. 

FLYERS PICKED 7TH IN A-10 POLL
• The Dayton women's soccer team was selected  to finish seventh in the 2018 Atlantic 10 standings in a vote by the league's 14 head coaches. 

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUND 
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: 10 times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016). 
• UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five. 
• Dayton has appeared in 21 A-10 tournaments, earning a berth every year the Flyers have been a member of the conference. 

BELIEVIN' IN BAUJAN 
• The Flyers are 224-66-22 all-time in games played n their home field, Baujan Field. In the last six years, Dayton is 68-14-7 at home, an astounding .803 winning percentage at Baujan.

•  10 Flyers are from the Cincinnati area: senior Sara Robertson, juniors Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey, Alex Powell, sophomores Olivia Brown and Megan Rack, and freshmen Sam Hausser, Lexy Kidd, and Mimi Stines.
