Volleyball Wins Two On Saturday, Claims Dayton Invite Title

Bruns Named MVP Of Dayton Invitational

DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team picked up two wins on Saturday in the second day of competition at the Flyers' Dayton Invitational. Dayton defeated both Ball State (25-19, 25-17, 27-29, 28-26) and South Alabama (27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15) by a margin of 3-1. UD senior Lauren Bruns was named the tournament's MVP and sophomore Brooke Westbeld joined Bruns on the All-Tournament Team.

Dayton finished the weekend with an unblemished 3-0 record. Ball State was 2-1 and South Alabama moved to 1-2 on the weekend.

KEY STATS
• 24 - Bruns tallied a career-high 24 kills in Dayton's 3-1 win over Ball State. For the weekend, Bruns averaged 4.36 kills/set
• .400 - three Flyers finished the weekend hitting above .400: Bruns - .451, senior Kendyll Brown - .433, freshman Amelia Moore - .417
• 3 - Westbeld posted three-consecutive double-doubles during the Dayton Invitational. She tallied 20 assists and a career-high 10 digs vs. Marshall, 10 kills and a career-high 36 assists vs. Ball State and a career-high 11 kills to go with 26 assists vs. South Alabama
• 38 - senior Margo Wolf got under a career-high 38 digs to lead all passers in Dayton's 3-1 win over Ball State

UP NEXT
Dayton is set to take part in the Bluegrass Battle hosted by No. 5 Kentucky Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Lexington. In addition to host UK, UD will also square off against RV Kansas and College of Charleston.
