The Flyers And Gamecocks Are Both Undefeated This Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will host No. 6/10 South Carolina Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in a marquee matchup at UD Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the week undefeated with a 2-0 record on the season, boasting wins over Lipscomb and Toledo this year. The Flyers are 34-5 at home in Coach Green's tenure.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her fourth season in charge of the Flyers and already has two tournament and one regular season conference titles, as well as being the former A-10 Coach of the Year in 2018.

As a team, the Flyers are scoring 71.0 points per game and holding opposing teams to 51.0 points each contest. Dayton is shooting 37.9 percent overall, 27.3 percent from three, and 75.0 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers have the fifth-best rebounding margin in the country and have a +1.0 turnover margin.

Dayton is led by redshirt junior Erin Whalen, who is averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and redshirt senior Shakeela Fowler, who is adding 13.5 points and 4.0 assists per game. Sophomore Kyla Whitehead is averaging a double-double as well.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA
South Carolina also has a 2-0 record on the season and rose to No. 6 in the AP poll this week. The Gamecocks are 1-0 on the road, including a victory last weekend at No. 4/5 Maryland.

Head coach Dawn Staley is in her 12th season at the helm of South Carolina and has a .715 winning percentage with the Gamecocks.

This season, South Carolina is socring 83.0 points each outing and holding opponents to just 48.5 points. The Gamecocks are shooting 41.5 percent form the field, 32.0 percent from behind the arc, and 74.2 percent from the charity stripe. South Carolina also leads the nation blocked shots and ranks in the top 15 in free throws made, field goal percentage defense, and rebounds.

The Gamecocks are led by Aliyah Boston with 13.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 7.5 blocks per game. Four other players are averaging double digit scoring in Tyasha Harris, Zia Cooke, Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, and Olivia Thompson.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went on the road and earned a 60-42 victory in a tough environment at Toledo Saturday. Fowler led the way with 16 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while Whalen had nine points and 11 boards.

South Carolina upset No. 4/5 Maryland on Sunday 63-54 on the road. Aliya Boston had a team-high 14 points and seven boards with Tyasha Harris contributing 13 points and four assists.

THE SERIES
Dayton and South Carolina have met just one time previously, last season in Colombia, S.C. The Gamecocks earned a 65-55 victory over the Flyers.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank fifth in the country in rebounding margin and 15th in rebounds per game.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 99 of its last 124 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.817), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

COACH GREEN EARNS 50TH WIN AT DAYTON
Dayton head coach Shauna Green earned her 50th win at UD in just two and half seasons with the win over Georgia Tech at the West Palm Beach Invite. Coach Green became the fastest Flyer coach to reach that mark since joining Division I and the fastest overall since Coach Maryalyce Jermiah led the Division II Dayton squad to back-to-back National Championship appearances in 1978-80.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 570 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
On Dec. 9, 2017, the Flyers played in front of 9,007 fans at UD Arena while hosting Toledo. The season-best crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,605, Dayton ranked 48th out of 349 DI programs. This year's School Day game will take place on Dec. 5 against Morehead State.

70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 160-18 (.898) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.
