Women’s Basketball’s Stifling Defense Earns 58-41 Victory

Dayton Defeated Morehead State In Front Of 10,554 Fans - A Record Crowd And Fourth Largest Crowd In NCAA This Year

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team won its annual School Day game 58-41 over Morehead State in front of 10,554 fans.

The Flyers (5-5) improve to .500 on the year while the Eagles (3-5) suffer the loss.

KEY MOMENT
2nd – 6:48 to 4:58 – After leading by just two in the early stages of the second, Dayton went on an 6-0 run to pull ahead by eight and never looked back.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 9, Morehead State 7
  • The game started slow for both teams with multiple turnovers and missed shots in the first five minutes of the game.
  • By the media timeout, it was still scoreless at 0-0.
  • Redshirt junior Erin Whalen converted a pair of free throws at the 4:35 mark to open the scoring.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 45, Morehead State 25
  • Dayton came out and added to its lead to start the second half, pulling ahead 32-18 in the first two minutes.
  • The Flyers pushed the tempo, which caused problems for the Eagles shooting wise.
  • By the media timeout, Dayton led 36-20.
  • The Flyers ended the quarter on a 9-5 stretch to lead by 20 with just 10 minutes to play.
  • Scaife was the first player to reach double-figures with 10 points.
4th Quarter: Dayton 58, Morehead State 41
  • MSU hit a three to start the fourth quarter as the Eagles attempted to start their comeback but senior Jenna Giacone quickly answered with a three of her own.
  • By the media timeout, Dayton had the margin back to 22 at 54-32.
  • The Flyers went on a 6-0 run over 2:01 despite going 1-for-7 from the field. The Eagles suffered from a four-plus minute scoring drought.
