Teaneck, N.J. -- The University of Dayton baseball team had a doubleheader on Fairleigh Dickinson's campus on Saturday and came away with a win and a tie. Dayton defeated Seton Hall by a score of 2-1 to open the day, then tied with Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-3, before the game was called for darkness. Dayton's record is now at 1-3-1, while Seton Hall dropped to 0-5 and Fairleigh Dickinson is now 1-0-1.
Junior left-hander
Hunter Wolfe threw a complete game against Seton Hall, striking out 11 batters, allowing four hits, one earned run and walking just one.
Jay Curtis had two of Dayton's three hits in the game, including the game-winning RBI single in the eighth.
Mitchell Garrity had two base hits for the Flyers against Fairleigh Dickinson, including a solo home run blast over the right field fence. The Knights tied the game in the bottom of the eighth and darkness caused the game to be called.
Justin Longbrake came on in relief in the eighth with what would've been the game-winning run on second base and struck out both batters faced to force the tie.
Game One
Key Moment
In the bottom of the ninth with a runner on first and one out, Seton Hall attempted to steal second with Tyler Shedler-McAvoy, but Dayton freshman catcher
Jay Curtis gunned down the would-be base stealer. If the stolen base attempt would've been successful, the Pirates would've had the tying run in scoring position with just one out, but Curtis's throw cleared the base paths and
Hunter Wolfe got Sebastiano Santorelli to foul out during that at-bat to seal the win and earn a complete game.
