Box Score DAYTON –The University of Dayton women's basketball team battled back in the fourth quarter, but suffered a heartbreaking 54-51 loss at George Mason Sunday.

The Flyers move to (14-11, 9-5 A-10) while the Patriots (15-12, 7-7 A-10) continue their win streak.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 21, George Mason 9
- Dayton opened the game up with a three from junior Jayla Scaife.
- George Mason did not score until the 7:40 mark after a strong start defensively by UD.
- The Patriots were forced to take a timeout with 5:21 on the clock after a bucket and a foul by redshirt junior Shakeela Fowler put the Flyers up 9-2 with a free throw in hand.
- Dayton was able to extend its advantage to double digits at 19-9 in the final two minutes of the quarter.
- The Flyers shot 56.3 percent in the first 10 minutes and held the Patriots to 28.6 percent.
- UD benefited from an 11-6 rebounding advantage and 12-6 points in the paint advantage.
- Scaife led UD with eight points and two rebounds.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 25, George Mason 31
- Mason started off the second on a 10-0 run to close the gap to two points, 21-19.
- The Flyers' first points in the quarter came at the 6:07 mark on free throws by redshirt sophomore Araion Bradshaw.
- By the media break with 3:40 to play, Dayton continued to lead by just two at 25-23. The Flyers had only scored four points in the second quarter up to that point.
- The Patriots took their first lead of the game with 2:57 to go, 26-25.
- GMU was amidst a 12-0 run over 4:15 and led by six at the half.
- Dayton went 1-of-13 in the second quarter while Mason went 9-of-14 outscoring the Flyers 22-4.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 36, George Mason 40
- The offenses slowed down to start the second half with Dayton unable to make a dent in the margin and Mason unable to add to its lead.
- Fowler hit a big three at the 6:22 mark to make it a three-point game, 35-32.
- Midway through the quarter, it was 35-34 in favor of the Patriots.
- Fouls slowed the game down even further coming out of the media timeout with neither team able to score over the next two minutes.
- UD suffered from a four plus minute scoring drought while Mason was 0-for-7.
- In the final minute, the Patriots got the margin back to six at 40-34.

4th Quarter: Dayton 51, George Mason 54
- The first basket in the fourth didn't come until the 7:58 mark with a layup by George Mason.
- The Flyers called a timeout with 7:48 to play and a six-point game to prevent any run by the Patriots.
- Mason got its largest lead of the game up to that point at eight, 44-36. The Patriots went on to extend that to double-digits.
- Dayton was not able to score until 4:33 remained in the game on a drive by senior Lauren Cannatelli.
- The Flyers cut it to four at 50-46 with 1:43 to play on a tough putback by junior Brittany Ward.
- With :53 to play, UD got it to two at 51-49 off a Ward free throw.
- The Flyers got a defensive stop, forcing a shot clock violation with :21Â on the clock and a chance to tie.
- Fowler hit a runner off the feed from Scaife to even the score at 51-51 with :02 in regulation.
- Mason then hit the game winner as time expired to earn the victory.
