Strong Pitching From #UDBASE Not Enough Against Canisius

The Dayton Pitching Staff Allowed Zero Earned Runs, But The Flyers Can Only Muster One Run On Saturday Morning

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team lost the first of three games against Canisius this weekend by a score of 2-1. Each of the Flyers last three losses have come by two runs or less, dropping their record to 2-8-1 on the season, while Canisius improves to 4-8 with the win.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Aaron Ernst appeared to have locked down a 1-2-3 inning on the mound for Dayton in the top of the sixth when he struck out Cole Hollins, but Jay Curtis was unable to hold onto the pitch and Hollins reached on the dropped third strike. The next at-bat, Joseph Preziuso went yard to give Canisius a 2-0 lead.
  • Dayton made a strong run to tie up the game in the bottom of the eighth, as Mitchell Garrity and Jay Curtis hit back-to-back doubles to score a run and place the game-tying run at second base with just one out. Jake Silverstein came in to pinch run for Curtis at second to put some speed in scoring position, but he was unable to be advanced, as consecutive strikeouts from Alex Brickman and Eddie Pursinger ended the inning. The Flyers also struck out in all three at-bats in the ninth.
