Orlando, Fla. – The Flyers responded to a lot of adversity today at the Atlantic 10 Championship. After a tougher front nine, the Flyers responded with a strong back nine to keep themselves in competition. The Flyers currently sit in 7
th place, but are only 11 strokes behind the leader, VCU. Domenic Maricoochi led the way for the Flyers today with a 69 (-3). He is currently tied for 11
th place in the tournament. The team tallied a total of 16 birdies on the course today. In addition,
Connor Quigley made an Eagle on 14.
VCU is currently in the lead with a team score of 298 + 288 = 586 (+10). Jake Long from Davidson is currently leading the field with a score of 68 + 71 (-5).
The Course
Located in beautiful Orlando, the Grand Cyprus Golf Club was designed by the great Jack Nicklaus. Opened in 1984, this challenging, yet beautiful course offers the golfers multiple challenges along its paths. In 2007, Jack Nicklaus actually came back and re-designed multiple holes to offer new, unique challenges.
The fairways and tees are made of 419 Bermuda grass while the greens are made of tif dwarf grass. This par 72 course is a total of 7024 yards.
Coach's Comments
"They guys fought hard today" said Head Coach
Gip Hoagland. "We made a few mistakes on the front and didn't get off to the best start. The back 9 was much better and we hung in there. We have an uphill battle in front of us tomorrow bet we are going to go play aggressively and see what happens. We are definitely not out of it!!"
