Toledo, Ohio -- The University of Dayton baseball team opened its week with a 12-9 win over Toledo on Tuesday afternoon. Dayton has now won 16 of its last 21 games and is now 18-13-1 on the season, while Toledo's record drops to 10-18 with the loss.
KEY MOMENT
Takahiro Yamada opened the top of the sixth with a walk and
Michael Cleary followed with a home run to right for the first of two runs of what would be a five-run inning for the Flyers. Cleary's home run put Dayton up 9-4, then
Connor Echols and
Eddie Pursinger both walked to reach base and scored on a two-RBI single to center from
Jay Curtis with two outs. Curtis moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, then pinch hitter
Marcos Pujols drove him in with a line drive single to left field to push the lead up to eight, which was enough of a cushion for the rest of the game.

Benjamin Blackwell (hit by pitch) both reached base to start the game, then on a double steal attempt, the Toledo catcher threw the ball into centerfield trying to catch Blackwell at second, which allowed Cleary to score.

Riley Tirotta hit his team-high eighth double to drive in a pair. Tirotta moved up to third on an error and scored when
Connor Wilson grounded out hard to the shortstop.
