#UDBASE Drops Midweek Game At Morehead State

Dayton Will Host Fordham Later This Week To Close Out The Regular Season

Morehead, Ky. – The University of Dayton baseball team fell to Morehead State on Tuesday evening by a score of 8-5. Dayton is now 28-22-1 this season, while Morehead State improves to 34-19, including a 23-2 mark at home. The Flyers will host Fordham this Thursday through Saturday for its final Atlantic 10 Conference series of the season. Dayton already has clinched a spot in next week's conference tournament and is just one game back of VCU for a share of the conference title.
 
KEY MOMENT
Trailing by a score of 8-4 with one out in the top of the seventh, Dayton had the bases loaded and just one out with Jay Curtis at the plate representing the tying run. Curtis grounded out into a 5-4-3 inning-ending double play and the Flyers were unable to get back within striking distance from there.

Morehead State scored three runs off four two-out base hits to take a lead. Connor Pauly hit a solo home run and Jon Burghardt and Trevor Snyder both had RBI base knocks.

Jon Burghardt led off the inning with a single and a Trevor Snyder doubled to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Ryan Layne doubled down the left field line to drive in both runners and Layne scored on a Jake Hammon single up the middle.

Stephen Hill homered to center field to open the inning.

Ryan Layne drew a leadoff walk and stole second to move into scoring position. Layne was driven home by a Stephen Hill single to center field.

Connor Wilson and Takahiro Yamada were both hit by a pitch to reach base, then Benjamin Blackwell drove in Wilson with an RBI single to right field. Connor Echols walked to load the bases, then Riley Tirotta lined an RBI single over the shortstop's head. Alex Brickman continued the string of hits with an infield single to send home Blackwell.

Connor Wilson hit his second home run of the year to cut the Morehead State lead to just three.
