COACH'S COMMENT
"The team played excellent through the course of this first tournament" said Head Coach
Gip Hoagland. "For the first tournament, you never really know what fully to expect, but the guys were able to come out and play solid golf. We played smart golf and did an excellent job on the greens. Going forward, we have a lot of momentum that we will hopefully carry with us into the GolfWeek Challenge next week in Iowa. I am really proud of how the team played."
PLAYER'S COMMENT
"I was extremely proud of our guys this week." said Senior
Domenic Maricocchi. "We came out firing from the first shot on Monday and kept the foot on the pedal all 36 holes. That gave us the lead headed into day 2. In my 3 years playing at UD, I have never seen our team go so low. It was an all inclusive effort that led us into the second day with a two shot lead. We came out a little slow on the last round, but we found ourselves grinding on every single hole to fight back. I feel that everyone contributed down the stretch to get us back into 1st for a little while before falling short in the end by a few strokes. There were definitely a lot of positives to take away from this tournament. We took it low and kept the fighting spirit alive! On top of that, we got a win for Kyle and a second place finish for myself! We are looking forward to next week in Iowa."
"Going into this tournament I didn't really know what to expect." said Freshman
Kyle Schmidt. "Before the start of rounds 1 and 3, I was more nervous than usual. However, my teammates and coach helped calm me down and, once the rounds got going, things started falling into place. It was an exhausting 54 holes in the heat. However, as a team, we all fought hard and motivated each other to keep grinding. I'm grateful to be apart of such a great team and am looking forward to competing along side them the rest of the year.
