DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will continue the 2020-21 season with its home opener on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. against the University of Akron. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ from UD Arena.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the contest with a 1-0 record overall after defeating Morehead State in the season opener last Wednesday on the road.

Shauna Green is in her fifth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year last season, her second time at UD.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 71.0 points per game and holding opponents to 57.0 points each outing. Dayton is shooting 45.5 percent overall, 25.0 percent from three point range, and 63.0 percent from the free throw line. UD has a +1.0 rebounding margin and forces 15 turnovers per game.

SCOUTING AKRON
Akron comes to Dayton for its first road game of the season, holding a 2-0 record with wins over Bluefield State and Northern Kentucky already this year, both coming at home.
Head coach Melissa Jackson is in her third season at the helm of the Zips with a 34-30 record overall. She has a history with the Atlantic 10 having played four years at the University of Richmond.
This year, the Zips are averaging 82.5 points per outing and allowing just 60.5 points to opposing squads. Akdron is shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from behind the arc, and 74.4 percent from the charity stripe. Despite being outrebounded by -5.0, the Zips have a +7.5 turnover margin.
Leading Akron is Jordyn Dawson with 18.0 points per game and shooting 48.1 percent from the floor. Lonasia Brewer and Rachel Martindale are adding 13.5 and 13.0 points per game respectively as well.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton earned a 71-57 victory over Morehead State on the road last Wednesday thanks to a 20-point third quarter and 36 points in the paint.
Akron defeated Northern Kentucky at home Dec. 1 with a 70-60 victory over the Norse. The Zips scored 29 points in the second quarter alone as Jordyn Dawson and Rachel Martindale led the way with 17 points each.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Akron have met 10 times previously with the Flyers winning nine of the 10 contests. The last time the two teams played was back on Nov. 15, 2014 with Dayton winning at home 94-80. The Flyers have won eight in a row.
The widest margin of victory in Dayton program history came against Akron on Jan. 12, 1979 with the Flyers defeating the Zips 110-26 for an 84-point margin.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
This season the Flyers rank fourth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense and 12th in blocked shots per game. Individually,
Jenna Giacone is fifth in the country in blocks per game while
Araion Bradshaw is 33rd in minutes played.
PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites VCU and ahead of Saint Louis, Davidson, Duquesne, and Fordham. The Flyers received two first-place votes.

BRADSHAW HELPS START ATHLETES DRIVING CHANGE

Araion Bradshaw was one of a few Atlantic 10 women's basketball players to start Athletes Driving Change, a minority female, student-run organization dedicated to racial and social injustice on campuses in the A-10. Their mission is to create change through education, action, and service. Bradshaw also serves on the A-10 Commission on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
FLYERS SWEEP A-10 TITLES
Last season the Flyers won both the regular season and tournament titles in the Atlantic 10 for the second time in program history, both in Coach Green's tenure. UD earned the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Tournament and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 602 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 171-20 (.895) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2019-20 when reaching that mark.
