MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Dayton baseball team opened the weekend with a 7-2 loss to Memphis on Friday at FedExPark.
The Flyers fall to 3-2 on the young season with the loss.

Head coach
Jayson King said he saw opportunities for the Flyers in the beginning stages of the game.
"We had chances to break the game open early and didn't," head coach
Jayson King said. "They capitalized on our many mistakes which good teams will do."
On the Mound
Hunter Wolfe continued his strong start to the season on the mound allowing just one hit over five innings to go along with a strikeout and an unearned run.
Justin Longbrake entered for Wolfe in the sixth and gave up three straight hits before being relieved by
Jonathan Brus. Brus also gave up a hit and
R.J. Wagner entered and did not give up a hit, but gave up two unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Bryce Hellgeth entered and gave up one hit over 1.1 innings before
Andrew Zapka entered and threw a scoreless ninth.
Scoring Plays
Top 2: (1-0 Flyers)
Jared Howell started the offense for the Flyers with a one-out walk.
Marcos Pujols advanced him with a base hit through the left side and
Tate Hagan followed with a single to right, loading the bases. With
Jay Curtis at the plate, a pitch got past the catcher, scoring Howell and putting Dayton on the board.
Top 3: (2-0 Flyers)
Benjamin Blackwell drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a
Riley Tirotta single.
Alex Brickman moved him to third on a fielder's choice and two batters later Hagan came through with another base hit scoring Blackwell and extending the lead.
Bottom 5: (2-1 Flyers)
Ian Bibiloni reached on an error by
Riley Tirotta. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a fly out to right field. A wild pitch by
Hunter Wolfe scored him and cut Dayton's lead to one run.
Top 6: (7-2 Flyers)
The Tigers got four consecutive hits to open the frame, all singles and gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead with nobody out. After a sacrifice bunt, an error by
Mariano Ricciardi scored another run, extending the Memphis lead. A ground ball to second scored a fifth run for the Tigers before a walk and a single on a miscommunication between Ricciardi and
Alex Brickman plated two more runs bringing the final runs of the game in to score.
