Eastern Kentucky Invitational On Tap For Softball March 6-8

Dayton To Take On Akron, UIC And Host Eastern Kentucky

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team will head to Richmond, Kentucky, Friday to take part in the 2020 Eastern Kentucky Invitational. Dayton will square off against Akron, UIC and host EKU March 6-8 at the Colonels' Gertrude Hood Field.

About Dayton
Dayton (4-10) went 2-2 in its last outing, the UNCG Spartan Classic Feb. 28-March 1. The team posted back-to-back shutouts over Oakland and Appalachian State before dropping two games to host UNCG. UD and Colonel Classic host EKU have already squared off this season, a 14-6 win by the Colonels on Feb. 7. The Flyers' offense is led by sophomore Lillie Knesel with a .419 average on 13 hits. In the circle, current Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week senior Jessica Weaver (3-2) carries the team's low ERA of 3.66.

Series Stuff
Akron: Dayton leads, 12-11. In 2018, Dayton hosted Akron for a doubleheader on April 25, picking a 1-0 and 3-2 win over the visiting Zips.
Eastern Kentucky: EKU leads, 19-17. Prior to the Colonels' win over the Flyers on Feb. 7 of this season, Dayton split a doubleheader at Gertrude Hood Field on March 13, 2019. UD won the first, 2-0, and EKU took the nightcap, 4-1.
UIC: Tied, 1-1. Dayton and UIC have not squared off since the late 80s and the last meeting took place on April 21, 1989. The Flames downed the Flyers, 10-0, in a late-season tournament hosted by Wright State.

In the NCAA's final Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2019 season, Dayton came in at 191 according to NCAA.com. Opponents: Akron - 259, Eastern Kentucky - 82, UIC - 127.

Junior Abby Ehrenborg set a new Dayton single-season RBI mark in 2019 with 49 and she currently ranks sixth all-time with 91 career RBI. For the season, Ehrenborg has knocked in eight runs on 13 hits.

Senior right-handed pitcher Jessica Weaver broke into the Dayton top 10 for career strikeouts at the end of last season. For her career, Weaver has struck out 192 batters, ranking her 10th all-time in program history.
