DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team completed a three-game sweep over Northern Kentucky on Sunday, defeating the Norse 14-0 at Woerner Field at DP&L Stadium.
The Flyers improve to 6-7 on the season picking up 18 hits on the afternoon.
Brantley Johnson picked up three hits and four runs batted in after entering in the bottom of the first and
Riley Tirotta also picked up three hits.
On the Mound
Cole Pletka was dealing in his fourth start of the year, tossing seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight while scattering four hits and two walks. Pletka only allowed one runner to advance into scoring position in the first four innings and cruised through seven strong earning his second win of the season.
Jordan Cox and
Justin Longbrake each pitched one scoreless frame, with both pitchers picking up a strikeout on the mound.
Scoring Plays
Bottom 2: (2-0 Flyers)
Jared Howell singled to open the inning down the left field line.
Nolan Watson came up two batters later and blasted his second home run of the season off the scoreboard to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead.
Bottom 5: (4-0 Flyers)
Riley Tirotta hit a one-out single and stole second. After a flyout, Tirotta stole second and scored on a
Marcos Pujols single. Pujols then advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a
Jared Howell single.
Bottom 6: (7-0 Flyers)
Nolan Watson singled to right center to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Michael Cleary.
Mariano Ricciardi scored him on a single to left center.
Brantley Johnson picked up his first RBI of the season with a single to left center scoring Ricciardi.
Alex Brickman doubled down the left field line, picking up his eighth RBI of the series and giving the Flyers a 7-0.
Bottom 7: (13-0 Flyers)
Jake Silverstein picked up a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Nolan Watson walked and
Bryce Hellgeth followed that with a single up the middle, scoring Silverstein.
Takahiro Yamada was hit by a pitch and
Brantley Johnson drove in two more with another single.
Riley Tirotta finished the scoring for the inning with a three-run home run.
Bottom 8: (14-0 Flyers)
Sam Scott led off the inning with his first career collegiate hit, doubling to center field. After two-straight outs,
Brantley Johnson drove in his fourth RBI of the day, scoring Scott and finishing the scoring for the Flyers.
