Senior Tribute: Women's Golf

Honoring Three Women's Golf Senior Student-Athletes

The University of Dayton department of athletics would like to recognize the seniors of our spring sports not given the opportunity to have a traditional Senior Recognition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the sixth installment of a series honoring the senior student-athletes who were not given the same spotlight as in previous years with our own version of a Senior Tribute.

Below is a tribute to each of the seniors for women's golf for the class of 2020.

Alexa Amato
Amato, a native of Mundelein, Illinois, saw action in a total of 55 rounds during her four years as a Flyer. She posted an 84.25 stroke average for her career and carded a career-low round of 75 on day two of the 2018 Eastern Kentucky Colonel Classic. A two-time member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, Amato has also earned mention on the MAAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and University of Dayton Dean's List. She is majoring in health science with a focus on exercise and movement science and will be graduating this May.

"A straight shooter, maybe not always off the tee, but in life," women's golf head coach Sally Kosters said of Amato. "Down to earth. I'll never stop laughing about the time I foraged around in her bag and found a club called "Bang O Matic." That was Alexa in a nutshell. Still have it in the office."

Ellie Cronin
A Dayton native, Cronin transferred to UD prior to her sophomore season and immediately made an impact. After three seasons as a Flyer, she holds the program's career-low scoring average of 76.26 (61 rounds, 4,652 strokes) and led the team this season with a career-low season stroke average of 75.21. Cronin collected 14 top-10 finishes over the last three seasons including tying for first place at this year's Flyer Challenge and placing second at UD's Flyer Invitational. She was twice named to the MAAC All-Conference Team and has earned mention on the MAAC All-Academic Team as well as UD's Dean's List. A marketing major, Cronin is set to graduate in May.

"What I'll remember about Ellie was overhearing her dry wit from the back of the van," reflected coach Kosters. " 'We're going to Ball State. Better buckle up.' And of course, the two- and three-under par. In my own game, I try to channel Ellie's deliberate, perfect take back. Ellie definitely changed our program."

Alissa Danielson
Hailing from Terre Haute, Indiana, Danielson played in 53 rounds over the last four seasons posting a career stroke average of 82.55. She claimed medalist honors at the 2018 Dayton Flyer Challenge after posting a career-low round of 74. Danielson was named to the 2020 Dayton All-Academic Team, has twice been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team along with WGCA All-American Scholar, MAAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and UD Dean's List accolades. She is majoring in mechanical engineering and is set to graduate in May.

"It wasn't that she couldn't hit the green, it was that she had a "money shot" from 50 yards, absolutely deadly at that range," Kosters said. "We'll miss her contribution to the team both academically and athletically and the supply of Yorba Linda, or Zorba Borba, or whatever that was! Yerba Mate, finally got it."
