LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Dayton men's tennis team dropped two matches to open the season on Wednesday at Louisville.

The Flyers fell 7-0 in the first match and 4-0 in the second.

In the season opener, Louisville started by taking the doubles point despite a victory by sophomores Connor Bruce and Matt DeMarco over Louisville's Tin Chen and Kyle Tang 7-5.

In singles play, Louisville's Sergio Hernandez opened with a victory over senior Will Harper in No. 3 singles. Freshman Erik Eliasson fell in No. 2 singles to Fabien Selle and senior Steven Karl dropped the No. 4 matchup, clinching the match for the Cardinals.

Freshman Ronit Hiryur also made his Dayton debut in the No. 5 flight, coming up short against Alex Westbrooks.  Bruce took Tin Chen to a tiebreak in the first set, but was unable to pick up the set for the Flyers, while sophomore Georgi Mavrodiev topped off the action for the Flyers in the first match, falling in straight sets in No. 6 singles.

In the second match of the day, the Cardinals also took the doubles point.

Junior Joe DeMarco fell in the No. 5 singles flight to David Mizrahi to open singles play. Sergio Hernandez took down Karl in No. 3 singles and the Cardinals clinched the match in No. 2 singles, with Bruce falling 6-3, 6-2.

Dayton's next match will take place at Toledo on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
