#UDVB At VCU, Davidson This Weekend

Flyers Enjoying 10-Match Win Streak

DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team will open a four-match road stint with games at VCU and Davidson this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 22, Dayton will be in Richmond, Virginia, to take on the Rams of VCU at 6 p.m. The Following Sunday, Oct. 24, UD will head to North Carolina for a 1 p.m. match-up against the Davidson Wildcats.

About Dayton
Dayton (16-5, 9-0 A-10) enters this weekend's games enjoying a 10-match winning streak and leading the A-10 standings with an unblemished 9-0 mark in conference play. Senior outside hitter Jamie Peterson leads the league in kills/set (4.35, 23rd NCAA), aces/set (0.53, 13th NCAA) and points/set (5.27, 12th NCAA) and sophomore Livie Sandt serves as the team's primary setter with 8.93 assists/set (2nd A-10). On defense, middle blockers Alayna Yates and Amelia Moore rank first and second in the A-10 in blocks/set with 1.19 and 1.15 respectively.  

Scouting VCU
VCU (11-10, 6-2 A-10) has won three straight since its 3-1 loss at Dayton on Oct. 7 and the Rams are currently in second place in league standings with a 6-2 record. As a team, VCU leads the A-10 with a .230 hitting percentage and with 13.18 kills/set. Qairo Bentley leads the Ram attack with 3.17 kills/set (6th A-10) while Jasmine Knight carries the team's best hitting percentage (.323, 2nd A-10) and collects 1.00 blocks/set (6th).

Scouting Davidson
Davidson (9-9, 5-3 A-10) heads into the weekend tied with Saint Louis for third place in conference standings. The Wildcats claimed a 3-1 win over the Billikens last Saturday in their lone match of the week. Hattie Rodriguez leads DC with 3.33 kills/set (5th A-10) and five-time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week Bella Brady paces the league with 5.67 digs/set. Anela Davis is the team's leading blocker with 1.12 per set (3rd A-10).

Series Stuff
VCU: Dayton leads, 14-7
The Flyers have won four straight and five of the last six meetings between VCU and Dayton, including a 3-1 win at Frericks Center on Oct. 7.

Davidson: Dayton leads, 12-0
In the matchup between the Flyers and the Wildcats on Oct. 9, Dayton claimed a 3-0 win at home. Over 12 total matches played, Davidson has only ever won one set over Dayton.

RPI Rankings
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2021 season (Oct. 17), Dayton ranked 50th according to NCAA.com. VCU came in at 127th and Davidson was rated 195th.

Hausfeld Court
Former Flyer Kacie Hausfeld passed away tragically in an airplane crash during her time as a Dayton Flyer. In her memory, her family made a substantial contribution to the Dayton volleyball program. That donation enabled the program to renovate Frericks Center, adding a new public address and sound system, new seating on the event level, new scoreboards and video boards and the playing surface was named "Hausfeld Court" among many other improvements to the facility.

• Tim Horsmon is in his 13th season overall, and eighth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2021. His record at Dayton is 313-89 and his career win-loss mark sits at 489-253 in 23 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is now the program's winningest coach, surpassing R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 13 seasons (2009-2021), the Flyers have recorded a 160-14 (.920) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton made its 21st-consecutive and 24th overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2020. The Flyers have reached conference post-season play every year they have been a member of the A-10 except 1995 and 1999. UD holds a 31-10 record in league tournaments.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 14 times (2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 14 times (2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003).
