Men's Soccer Hosts Duquesne In Regular Season Finale

The Flyers And Dukes Kickoff At 7 p.m. For Senior Day

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will finish up the 2021 regular season Saturday when it hosts Duquesne at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field. There will be a Senior Day ceremony prior to the game to recognize the nine seniors in this year's class.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton sits at 5-8-3 overall on the season and in 10th place in the Atlantic 10 standings with a 2-4-1 league mark. The Flyers are two spots out of the postseason hunt, but a win and losses by UMass and St. Bonaventure could see UD return to the A-10 Championship.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 17th year at the helm of the Flyers and the reigning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. UD replaces just one starter from last year's team that went on to win the A-10 regular season title with a 4-1-1 conference mark.

As a team, the Flyers are averaging 1.31 goals per game and giving up 1.75 goals to opposing teams.

Leading the way for the Flyers is senior Kingsford Adjei, who has five goals and three assists for 13 points, and junior Forster Ajago, who has five goals and one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Marc Kouadio has 65 saves in all 16 starts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
DUQUESNE

Duquesne heads into the season finale with a 8-5-2 record on the year and 3-2-1 A-10 mark. The Dukes are fighting themselves for one of the top four spots in the league, which means a home game in the opening round. Duquesne has found the majority of its success at home this season with a 1-5-1 road mark and 7-0-1 home record.

Head coach Chase Brooks is in his ninth season with the Dukes and a former assistant for Coach Currier at Dayton.

As a team, Duquesne is scoring 1.80 goals each outing and allowing 1.87 goals to opposing squads. The Dukes are out-shooting opponents 16.9 to 15.1 as well.

Individually, Duquesne is led by Maxi Hopfer with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points. He leads the league in shots, goals, and ranks second in points. Zach Mowka and Ryan Landry have added team-highs with five assists each. Goalkeeping duties have fallen to Domenic Nascimben, who has 72 saves and three shutouts.

LAST OUTING
Dayton suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss at home to St. Bonaventure last Saturday, making postseason hopes more challenging. The Bonnies scored just before halftime and early in the second half with a late UD PK not enough to catch SBU.

Duquesne moved its unbeaten streak to three games with a 2-1 victory over Wright State at home Tuesday night. The visiting Raiders took the initial lead in the 56th minute, but the Dukes rallied with a goal in the 58th and the game-winner in the 89th minute.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Duquesne have met 23 times previously with the Flyers holding a 15-7-1 record advantage over the Dukes. The two teams faced off twice in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season with UD winning those games 4-2 away and 5-1 at home.
-
The last time Dayton lost to Duquesne was back in 2006, Coach Currier's second year at UD.

UP NEXT
The Flyers have to win Saturday against Duquesne and need some help from other games to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament.
