DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team will welcome Atlantic 10 foe VCU to Frericks Center on Thursday. First serve between the Flyers and Rams is set for 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 and admission is free.

About Dayton
Dayton (10-5, 4-0 A-10) opened a seven-match homestand with a 3-0 win over Duquesne on Sunday afternoon, stretching its A-10 winning streak to 14 consecutive wins over conference opponents. Flyer redshirt-freshman Alayna Yates, the reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 with 1.14 blocks/set. Senior Jamie Peterson tallies 4.06 kills/set (1st A-10) and she serves up 0.45 aces/set (3rd A-10).

Scouting VCU
VCU (8-9, 4-1 A-10) picked up two wins last weekend over George Mason (3-1) and George Washington (3-0) in Richmond. The Rams' lone conference loss this season came at the hands of the SLU Billikens (3-2) on Sept. 26. VCU's offense is led by Qairo Bentley with 3.08 kills/set (7th A-10) while Corinna Jones serves up 0.30 aces/set (9th A-10). On defense, Jasmine Knight is the team's leading blocker with 1.06 blocks/set (6th A-10).

Series Stuff
Dayton leads, 13-7
The Flyers have won 13 out of 20 all-time meetings against the Rams, including the last three match-ups. Dayton and VCU last squared off in the title match of the 2020 A-10 Championship as UD claimed a 3-0 win for the program's 14th tourney title.

RPI Rankings
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2021 season (Oct. 3), Dayton ranked 67th according to NCAA.com. VCU came in at 145.

Hausfeld Court
Former Flyer Kacie Hausfeld passed away tragically in an airplane crash during her time as a Dayton Flyer. In her memory, her family made a substantial contribution to the Dayton volleyball program. That donation enabled the program to renovate Frericks Center, adding a new public address and sound system, new seating on the event level, new scoreboards and video boards and the playing surface was named "Hausfeld Court" among many other improvements to the facility.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his 13th season overall, and eighth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2021. His record at Dayton is 307-89 and his career win-loss mark sits at 483-253 in 23 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's second-winningest coach behind only R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 13 seasons (2009-2021), the Flyers have recorded a 155-14 (.917) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton made its 21st-consecutive and 24th overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2020. The Flyers have reached conference post-season play every year they have been a member of the A-10 except 1995 and 1999. UD holds a 31-10 record in league tournaments.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 14 times (2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 14 times (2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003).
• In the program's 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, Dayton has reached the Second Round eight times and the Flyers hold an 8-15 all-time record in NCAA tourney matches.
• With two wins at the 2014 Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program to become just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 12th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,177-606 (.660) over 52 seasons (1970).
• The Flyers finished the 2020 season with a 14-2 overall record and an 8-1 Atlantic 10 mark, finishing in first place in regular-season league play. 2020 was the program's 42nd winning season.
