PITTSBURGH - The top-seeded University of Dayton volleyball team held off No. 5 Duquesne 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-7) in the semifinals of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday afternoon. The three-day postseason tournament is being hosted by Duquesne at the Dukes' UMPC Fieldhouse.
Dayton improves to 24-5 on the season while Duquesne is now 13-16.
KEY STATS
• 26 & 18 - senior
Jamie Peterson tallied a team-high 26 kills to go with a career-high 18 digs for her eight double-double of the season
• 21 & 22 - freshman
Lexie Almodovar also recorded her eight double-double of the season with 21 kills and a career-high 22 digs
• 50 & 11 - sophomore
Livie Sandt was the third Flyer with a double-double, her sixth of the season, with 50 assists and 11 digs
• 18 - Dayton has won 18 consecutive matches
• 8 - freshman
Alayna Yates collected eight blocks as the team posted 15.5 total blocks
• 8 - as a team, Dayton served up eight aces to Duquesne's zero
UP NEXT
Dayton will compete for the program's 15th A-10 Championship title on Sunday. UD will square off against the winner of #2 VCU vs. #6 Fordham tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The match will be streamed live via ESPN+.
