NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The University of Dayton men's golf team has been selected to finish in third place in conference standings in 2021 according to the Atlantic 10 Coaches Preseason Poll as announced by the league office Feb. 12.
Defending champion VCU has been selected has been selected to win the 2021 A-10 Championship, collecting five first-place votes. The Rams won the 2019 championship and returns five of the top six members of last year's team. Davidson, the 2018 champions, was picked second in the poll with 113 points.
Dayton finished third in the poll with 97 points, and returns four of its five everyday players from the COVID-19-shortened 2019-20 season, including
Kyle Schmidt. Schmidt carded three sub-70 rounds, including a career-low 65 (-6) on his way to a first-place finish at Marshall's Joe Feaganes Invitational.
The 2021 Atlantic 10 men's golf championship begins Friday, April 30 at The Reunion Resort & Golf Club, Orlando, Fla. The 11 A-10 golf teams will play 18 holes per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Practice rounds are slated for Thursday. The winner of the 54-hole event will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
