DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's soccer team will kick-off the 2021 spring campaign with a match against Bowling Green Friday, Feb,. 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Wall to Wall Sports Complex in Mason, Ohio.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday evening at Baujan Field, but the day and location was changed due to inclement weather.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Bowling Green have played each other 27 times previously with the Flyers winning 11 times, the Falcons winning 15 times, and one draw.
The last meeting between the two teams took place back in 2016 with Dayton and Bowling Green tying 1-1 in double overtime.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
- Dayton enters the game picked tied for second in the Atlantic 10 Preseason poll, trailing only Saint Louis and tying VCU.
- The Flyers are coming off a 2019 season in which they went 13-8 and advanced all the way to the A-10 Championship game before falling to Rhode Island.
- Dayton was 6-2 in A-10 play and 9-1 at home in 2019.
- The Flyers dominated the end of season awards with then junior midfielder Jonas Fjeldberg earning A-10 Offensive Player of the Year honors while sophomore midfielder Kingsford Adjei was named A-10 Midfielder of the Year and freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo was named A-10 Rookie of the Year. All three players return this season after combining for 30 goals and 16 assists in 2019.
- Dayton returns a veteran squad offensively, but replaces four-year goalkeeper Federico Barrios and defenders Dennis Ntsin and Cole Watkins in the back.
- Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 16th season at the helm of the Flyers and has 152 career wins at UD.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
- Bowling Green has gone 2-0 in the preseason this year with a 2-0 win at Xavier and a 7-0 victory against Tiffin on Feb. 9.
- The Falcons are coming off a 2019 season in which they went 13-7-1 and 2-3 in MAC play.
- Bowling Green advanced to the MAC Tournament title game before falling to West Virginia, 1-0. Prior to that, the Falcons had won four games in a row.
- Senior midfielder Chris Sullivan is the top returner for BGSU having scored seven goals and recorded nine assists, both team highs in 2019. Fellow senior defender Achille Robin contributed five goals and four assists while starting all 21 games as well.
- Bowling Green was picked to finish third this season in the MAC preseason poll behind Akron and Western Michigan. The Falcons did receive one first place vote however.
