DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team opened up the 2021 season with a 2-0 win over Bellarmine Saturday at Roger Glass Stadium. Freshmen
Diana Benigno and
Madison Wilson scored for the Flyers.
KEY STATS
•  The Flyers had six shots on goal on 10 shot attempts.
•  Dayton had 10 fouls to just four on the Knights.
•  Dayton started 10 underclassmen (five freshmen and five sophomores), all field players. Six of the UD subs who saw game action were also freshmen.

Carly Becker started the match and notched two saves. Sophomore
Madelyn Dewey played the second half and also had two saves in goal.
•  The defensive starters sophomores
Mackenzie Lutz and
Audrey Steiert, along with freshman
Katie Houck helped preserve the shutout. Lutz was the only Flyer to play all 90 minutes of the match.
KEY MOMENTS
•  Benigno scored her first collegiate goal in the 48th minute and a perfect cross by sophomore
Jessica Sheldon. It proved to be the game-winning goal.
•  Less than 10 minutes later, Wilson scored her first collegiate goal in the 57th minute to put UD up 2-0. Sophomore
Laney Huber and Benigno had the assists on Wilson's goal.

•  The Flyers don't compete again until Sunday, Feb. 21 vs. Butler in Westfield, Ind. at Grand Park at 7 p.m.
