MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's tennis team dropped its contest on Saturday night to UIC 6-1 at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.
 
The Flyers are now 0-3 in 2021, while UIC sits at 1-2. UD opened the night by losing the doubles point. Sophomores Paige Kompa and Elizabeth Hamilton fell 6-1 in No. 1 doubles and UIC took the point when sophomore Erica Wojcikiewicz and junior Natalie Stanton failed to win the No. 2 doubles flight.
 
In singles play, Stanton and freshman Sarah DeMarco both fell in straight sets in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Senior Kelly Pleiman also dropped her match in No. 4 singles against UIC's Ana Jover and Hamilton was edged in No. 3 singles by Lucie Prochazkova of the Flames.
 
Kompa fell in the first set in No. 1 singles 6-3 before coming back to take the second frame 7-5 to force a 10 point tiebreak. Kompa came up just short in the back-and-forth third set, falling 10-8. The Flyers point came from Wojcikiewicz in No. 2 singles. The sophomore opened with a 6-4 victory in the first set over Agnes Gustafson. Wojcikiewicz fell in a tiebreak in set two before edging out a victory in the 10-point tiebreak 11-9, taking the match for Dayton.
 
The Flyers will play three matches in three days next weekend, with the first coming Friday, Feb. 12 at home against IUPUI. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at South Regency Tennis Center.
