CINCINNATI – The University of Dayton men's tennis team defeated Xavier 7-0 in Cincinnati on Friday afternoon. The victory marked the 100
th career victory for head coach
Ryan Meyer.

"Overall it was a great day for Flyer Tennis," Meyer said. "It was our first outdoor match of the season and we played exceptionally well. Anytime you play Xavier you know it's going to be a dogfight. Fortunately for us we came ready to fight and came home with the win. From top to bottom we did what we needed to do. We will enjoy this victory tonight and start preparing for NKU tomorrow."

With the victory the Flyers improve to 7-5 on the season. UD opened the day up with a strong performance in doubles play. Sophomores
Connor Bruce and
Max DeCurtins took No. 1 doubles 6-2 and redshirt senior
Steven Karl and sophomore
Matt DeMarco took the second doubles flight by the same score.

That momentum continued into singles play with Bruce improving to 7-4 on the season in singles play, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Brett Winters of Xavier. Karl also won in straight sets in the second singles flight. Sophomore
Georgi Mavrodiev took No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3 and freshman
Erik Eliasson also won in straight sets in the fifth singles flight. DeMarco dropped the first set in No. 4 singles before coming back to take the next two sets and the match while senior
Will Harper also won a three-setter against Xavier's Jan Vrba in No. 6 singles.

Dayton will return to Miamisburg to take on Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at South Regency Tennis Center.
