Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The University of Dayton softball team split its games on the opening day of the 2021 MTSU Invitational. In the first game of the weekend, Dayton outlasted Illinois State, 3-2, before falling to host Middle Tennessee, 8-0 (5). Freshman Megan Ward continues to lead the Flyer offense, recording four hits on the day.

Dayton is now 4-5 on the season.

GAME ONE
Dayton 3, Illinois State 2
• Freshman Megan Ward went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored the game-winning run
• Six different Flyers tallied hits in the game with two outs
• Senior Abby Ehrenborg recorded the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh
Winning Pitcher: Addy Bullis (2-1) - 7.0 IP, career-high eight Ks, two earned runs on seven hits
Losing Pitcher: Morgan Day (4-3) - 6.2 IP, two earned runs on eight hits, four strikeouts

GAME TWO
Middle Tennessee 8, Dayton 0 (5)
• Ward recorded a single in her first at-bat of the game, the Flyers' only hit of the contest
• Junior Catherine Jensen worked 2.2 innings of relief for UD in the circle, allowing one earned run
Winning Pitcher: Amber Baldwin (4-3) - 5.0 IP, complete-game shutout
Losing Pitcher: Sarah Bailitz (2-2) - 1.2 IP, four earned runs on seven hits

UP NEXT
Dayton will play two more games tomorrow on the second day of the MTSU Invitational. North Dakota State and Dayton will open day-two action with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. ET at Blue Raider Softball Field. The Flyers' second day of the game will be determined by the outcome of UD vs. NDSU and ISU vs. MTSU.
