Men's Soccer Continues A-10 Play At Duquesne

The Flyers Look For Their First Win This Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team continues Atlantic 10 play Wednesday on the road at Duquesne at 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers are 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in A-10 games after falling at Saint Louis last Saturday. Dayton does boast preseason victories over Akron and Cedarville, but is still looking for its first regular season win.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 16th season at the helm of the Flyers, totaling 152 victories, the most in UD history. He returns the reigning Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year Jonas Fjeldberg, A-10 Midfielder of the Year Kingsford Adjei, and A-10 Rookie of the Year Toluwalase Oladienbo.

Overall, Dayton is scoring 1.00 goal per game and giving up 2.33 to opposing teams. The Flyers are being outshot as well, 14.7 to 13.7.

The Flyers are led by senior Jonas Fjeldberg  with three points on a goal and an assist, while juniors Jake Feiner and Kingsford Adjei each have a goal and sophomore Toluwalase Oladeinbo has two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Marc Kouadio has played every minute this season with 11 saves.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
DUQUESNE

Duquesne hosts Dayton with a 1-1 record overall and 1-0 A-10 mark, earning a road win at St. Bonaventure to open league play. The Dukes also suffered a loss at Pittsburgh in its other regular season game, also on the road.

Head coach Chase Brooks is in his eighth season in charge of the Dukes and was a former assistant coach at Dayton.

The Dukes are scoring 0.50 goals each outing and allowing the same amounts to opponents. Duquesne is averaging 6.5 shots per game and giving up 8.0 to opposing squads.

Duquesne is led by Maxi Hopfer with one goal and two points while Nate Dragisich provided the assist. Goalkeeper Domenic Nascimben has five saves and a 0.50 goals against average in two starts.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Duquesne have met 21 times previously with the Flyers winning 13 contests and the Dukes winning seven games. UD came out on top in the last meeting on Oct. 23, 2019 at home, 2-0. The Flyers have not lost to the Dukes since 2006.

LAST OUTING
Dayton opened the Atlantic 10 season with a 2-0 loss on the road at Saint Louis Saturday. The Flyers allowed a goal in each half and were unable to get into the win column this season.

Duquesne earned a 1-0 victory at St. Bonaventure Saturday, 1-0, to open A-10 play. Maxi Hopfer scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute.

FJELDBERG DRAFTED BY F.C. CINCINNATI
Dayton senior Jonas Fjeldberg was recently drafted in the 2021 MLS Superdraft by F.C. Cincinnati with the 54th pick overall in the second round. He will join up with the team after the completion of his senior campaign.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
Dayton has been known to have numerous international players and this year is no different. The Flyers' roster contains eight international players from the countries of Sweden, Ghana, Norway, Nigeria, Bosnia, and South Africa.

RECAPPING THE 2019 SEASON
Dayton last competed in the fall of 2019 and went 13-8 overall and 6-2 in A-10 play. The Flyers got hot late and won five games in a row to take them all the way to the A-10 Championship game before eventually falling to Rhode Island in the final.

The Flyers dominated the A-10 Conference Awards with three major award winners in A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Jonas Fjeldberg, A-10 Midfielder of the Year Kingsford Adjei, and A-10 Rookie of the Year Toluwalase Oladienbo.

Dayton will continue the A-10 season on Saturday, March 20 at Baujan Field against St. Bonaventure at 6 p.m.
