MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's tennis team fell on Friday night to Xavier at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.

The Flyers fall to 4-8 on the season with the loss. Dayton stayed competitive throughout the contest, with sophomores
Paige Kompa and
Elizabeth Hamilton taking the No. 1 doubles point 6-4. Xavier responded by taking the second and third doubles flights, with No. 2 doubles falling just short of topping the Musketeers with junior
Natalie Stanton and sophomore
Erica Wojcikiewicz dropping the contest 7-5.

UD failed to generate much traction in singles play, but Kompa and Wojcikiewicz put up strong efforts in the first two singles flights. Kompa fell in set one before taking the second set in No. 1 singles. The sophomore took the third set to a tiebreak before falling 7-6. Wojcikiewicz fell just short in the first set of No. 2 singles as well, falling in a tiebreak and after taking set two convincingly 6-1, again went to a tiebreak in the third set. The sophomore again fell just short 7-6.

Dayton fell in the third through sixth flights in straight sets.

The Flyers will return Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest with West Virginia State at Graul Tennis Complex. It will be the first home outdoor match of the season for Dayton.
