MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team won its conference opener on Friday night against Duquesne 4-0 at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.

"I was happy with the way the guys competed tonight," head coach
Ryan Meyer said. "We always have good matches with Duquesne and tonight was no different. We started off well by winning two and three doubles comfortably. That momentum carried into singles and we were able to get the 4-0. We will enjoy this win tonight but get back after it tomorrow."

The Flyers improve to 8-0 at home and 9-5 overall in 2021. The team started out taking the doubles point with senior
Steven Karl and sophomore
Matt DeMarco took No. 2 doubles 6-3 and junior
Joe DeMarco and sophomore
Georgi Mavrodiev finished the point for UD with a 6-2 win in the third doubles flight.

Connor Bruce took the No. 1 singles match with Duquesne's Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal in straight sets, winning a tiebreak in the second set to take the point.
Matt DeMarco followed that up with a win in No. 4 singles, also in straight sets and senior
Will Harper clinched the match for the Flyers in No. 6 singles, capping off the win for UD.

Dayton will return to action with two matches on Sunday, both at South Regency. The Flyers will take on Saint Louis at 10 a.m. before coming back to take on IU-East at 5 p.m.
