Women's Tennis Sweeps Cedarville Friday Night

Flyers Have Won Three Of Last Four Matches

MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's tennis team swept Cedarville on Friday night 7-0 at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.

"I was happy with today's performance," head coach Erica Echko said. "It was nice to have a total team effort in the win."

The Flyers have now won three out of their last four matches and sit at 4-6 in 2021.

UD opened the night with a dominant showing in doubles play. Sophomores Paige Kompa and Elizabeth Hamilton took down Abby Totten and Lauren Hollis of Cedarville 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. The second doubles flight went the exact same way as junior Natalie Stanton and sophomore Erica Wojcikiewicz also took every point in their match. Junior Claire Ghidotti and reigning Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week freshman Julia Bays finished the sweep of doubles play by taking a 6-2 victory in No. 3 doubles.

Dayton kept that going into singles play as Wojickiewicz and Hamilton each won in straight sets in the first two singles flights. Senior Kelly Pleiman won her match in No. 3 singles taking the tiebreak 10-4 in the third set.

Freshman Sarah DeMarco and Stanton each did not drop a single point, winning 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 and No. 5 singles. The Flyers finished off the sweep in No. 6 singles with Bays, who won in the sixth singles flight 6-1, 6-0.

Dayton will head to Indianapolis next weekend to take on Butler on Saturday, March 13. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
