DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is set to open the home portion of its 2021 schedule Wednesday as it plays host to Bowling Green. The Flyers and Falcons are scheduled to play two with first pitch set for 3 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium.
Based on campus and local COVID-19 protocols and capacity restrictions, Dayton home athletic events will not be open to the general public. Limited seating is available to guests of Dayton student-athletes (names must be on a pass list for admission). Currently, visiting team fans are not permitted in/at the facility. Additionally, attendance at Dayton home athletic events will be socially distanced and fans are required to wear masks. These protocols will be reviewed as the season progresses.
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
Bowling Green (7-7) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Marshall's Thundering Herd Round Robin after picking up a 6-1 win over Valparaiso before dropping contests to host Marshall and Saint Francis. The Falcons are led offensively by Greta L'Esperance who carries a team-best .385 average on the strength of 20 hits and she is a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases. In the circle, Payton Gottshall (7-3) has collected all seven of Bowling Green's wins with eight complete games and four shutouts while recording 141 strikeouts.
ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (3-3) went 3-1 at the Bellarmine Classic this past weekend, claiming two wins over IUPUI and splitting two games with host Bellarmine. Prior to the Classic, Dayton had five-straight games cancelled and have only gotten in six games on the season. The Flyers' offense has three players hitting above .300, including freshman
Megan Ward who carries a team-best .429 average on the strength of nine hits while senior
Abby Ehrenborg has knocked out four home runs and has a team-high nine RBI.
Sarah Bailitz (2-0) holds the team's low ERA of 1.02

Sarah Bailitz claimed Atlantic 10 softball weekly awards Tuesday, the first accolades of the 2021 season. Ehrenborg earned Player of the Week honors while Bailitz was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.Â

Dayton will head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., this weekend for MTSU Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee March 12-14. UD will square off against Illinois State, North Dakota State and host Middle Tennessee at Blue Raider Softball Stadium.
