OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Dayton volleyball team is advancing to the second round of the 2020-21 NCAA Tournament after a straight-set (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) win over Towson Wednesday evening. Dayton moves on to face sixth-seeded Washington Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Dayton improves to 14-1 overall and Towson moves to 6-1 to close out its season.
KEY STATS
• 9 - freshman
Lexie Almodovar tallied a match-high nine kills to lead all attackers. For the match, she posted a .412 hitting percentage
• 7 - senior
Bridget Doherty and junior
Maura Collins each got under a match-high-tying seven digs
• 6 - freshman
Alayna Yates tallied six total blocks
• .366 - as a team, Dayton hit at .366 for the match compared to Towson's .024 hitting percentage
UP NEXT
Dayton will be making the program's eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament Second Round tomorrow with its 3:30 p.m. match-up against sixth-seeded Washington. It will only be the second meeting between Dayton and Washington - the last was a 3-2 battle on Sept. 7, 2018 at the Pittsburgh Panther Tournament. Then 12th-ranked Washington eked out the five-set win, 25-19, 27-25, 24-26, 23-25, 17-15. The Flyers hold a 8-14 overall record over 15 appearances in NCAA tournament.
