Softball Closing Out Regular Season At Home Against Saint Louis

Flyers and Billikens Set To Play Four Games May 8-9

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team will close out the 2021 regular season at home with a four-game Atlantic 10 series against Saint Louis May 8-9. The back-to-back doubleheaders are scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at UD Softball Stadium.

A senior recognition ceremony will take place between games on Saturday.

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis (19-25, 10-10 A-10) is coming off its Atlantic 10 bye weekend but did pick up two wins over visiting Division I newcomer Bellarmine on May 1. Most recently, Saint Louis went 1-3 against George Washington at home April 24-25. The Billikens' offense is keyed by Gabbie Kowalik with a team-best .405 batting average and she leads the team with 10 home runs, five doubles and 35 RBI. In the circle for SLU, Chloe Wendling (9-7) carried the team low ERA of 3.66 over 109.0 innings pitched in 26 appearances and Aubrey Hacke has tallied a team-high 67 strikeouts.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (17-24, 12-8 A-10) is set to battle Saint Louis this weekend for the final spot in the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship and the Flyers and Billikens split their four-game series earlier this season in St. Louis April 2-3. Freshman Megan Ward leads the Flyer offense with a .410 batting average (5th A-10), one of six UD hitters carrying a .300+ average, and 57 hits (1st A-10) while senior Abby Ehrenborg (.333) has knocked out a career-high 14 home runs (2nd A-10) and collected a team-high 33 RBI. Freshman Addy Bullis (10-6) leads the Flyer pitching corps with a team-low 1.83 ERA over 103.1 innings pitched in 24 appearances while tallying 99 strikeouts (4th A-10).

ATLANTIC 10 FORMAT
The Atlantic 10 is divided into two divisions with five teams in each regionally-based pod. Dayton competes in the central division which also features George Mason, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis and George Washington. The north division is made up of Fordham, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Also new to the 2021 Atlantic 10 schedule is that conference series have moved from three to four-game series, featuring doubleheaders each day of the two-day series. The top two winning percentages from each division will advance to the 2021 Softball Championship May 13-15 with the team with the best overall winning percentage serving as the host team.

ATTENDANCE AT UD SOFTBALL STADIUM
Based on campus and local COVID-19 protocols and capacity restrictions, Dayton home athletic events will not be open to the general public. Limited seating is available to guests of Dayton student-athletes (names must be on a pass list for admission). Currently, visiting team fans are not permitted in/at the facility. Additionally, attendance at Dayton home athletic events will be socially distanced and fans are required to wear masks.
